چکیده

In these decades biocontrol, or biological control, is an alternative mean to control plant diseases. In several fungal biocontrol agents, GMC oxidoreductases are involved in biocontrol activity. For example, in Talaromyces fl avus (Klöcker) Stolk and Samson, a glucose oxidase (AAB09442), a member of GMC oxidoreductase, is involved in its biocontrol activity of Verticillium dahliae Klebahn (Stosz et al., 1996). Its catalytic activity generates hydrogen peroxidase which destroys microsclerotia of the pathogen (Macarisin et al., 2010; Meschke and Schrempf, 2010; Stosz et al., 1996). In Trichoderma harzianum Rifai, several antagonism associated genes were reported to be putative members of GMC oxidoreductase when it antagonizes Rhizoctonia solani (Scherm et al., 2009). Leiter et al. (2004) reported that glucose oxidase, a member of GMC oxidoreductase, is an antifungal protein secreted by Penicillium chrysogenum Thom. These suggest that GMC oxidoreductase often plays important roles in the biocontrol of fungal diseases. Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. conglutinans Snyder and Hans. causes yellows on cabbage (Brassica oleracea L.). Yoshida et al. (1998) reported the occurrence of a J. Gen. Appl. Bacteria are fundamentally divided into two groups, Gram-positive and -negative, based on the chemical and physical properties of their cell walls. The classic Gram stain reaction permits the useful distinction between Gram-positive and -negative bacteria. Gram staining results largely affect the initial classifi cation of an unknown bacterium and the selection of follow-up identifi cation proc...

Probiotic bacteria are defi ned by FAO/WHO as “Live microorganisms which when administered in adequate amount confer a health benefi t” (Fuller, 1986; Reid et al., 2005). Probiotics are characterized by numerous antagonistic effects against the Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogens. In addition, probiotics are also believed to reduce the risk of disorders from bacteria in the gastrointestin...

Sour congee, a traditional fermented cereal gruel, has been consumed for hundreds of years in the western regions of Inner Mongolia in China. The preparation procedure for sour congee could be generalized across different regions. Cereal grains, mainly millet and rice (sometimes blended with a little maize) are soaked with clean water in a pot at room temperature (about 25°C) for 3‒4 days. Duri...

In the past three decades, several methods have been reported for the growth of yeast spheroplasts in liquid culture. When spheroplasts of Saccharomyces cerevisiae were inoculated in rich medium containing 0.4 M KCl as an osmotic stabilizer and cultured for 7‒8 h with occasional manual shaking, they entered the fi rst round of mitosis at low cell density. Spheroplasts inoculated at higher cell ...
